The Cessna Citation Series of private aircraft is actually a large, complex family of different models of the popular Cessna light business jet. What follows is by no means an exhaustive list of all Cessna Citation Series aircraft; rather, we focus here on the most popular among the Citation family. Beginning at the cost-effective end of the scale, Cessna rolled out the Citation Mustang, which is classified as a very light jet (VLJ). Seating a modest 4 passengers, this mid-range private business jet can fly for up to 1,150 nautical miles, easily traveling up and down the eastern seaboard of the United States. Prices begin around $2.5 million dollars.
The Citation Bravo is one grade up in weight class, ranking as a light jet, as opposed to a very light jet. Prices run around $3.5 million for this 6-7 passenger business jet. It’s range is slightly longer than the Bravo, coming in at a maximum of 1,789 nautical miles. Moving up another tier in weight class, we come to the mid-size Cessna Citation Sovereign. Ranked as the most versatile business jet, the Sovereign can accommodate 8 to 12 passengers, with a maximum range of about 2,500 nautical miles–nearly transcontinental. A typical example run on this jet would be from Los Angeles to Detroit. Prices are a modest $3.8 million for full ownership.
In the same price range, the mid-size Citation VII can carry 7-8 passengers on similar length flights–up to 2,536 nautical miles. The downgrade in maximum passenger capacity is compensated for by a larger baggage compartment. Another highlight of the Citation VII is that it is one of the fastest private jets in the industry.
As we mentioned above, this is not the complete list of Cessna aircraft available–this is merely a sampling of the most frequently flown jets on the market today. To discuss the Cessna Citation Family in depth, please visit our forums.
